Welcome to The Libertyville Professional
Firefighters Association, Local 3892,
web site. We are members of the
International Association of
Firefighters (IAFF) and the Associated
Firefighters of Illinois (AFFI). Local
members are sworn, full-time, qualified
and certificated firefighters and
Lieutenants employed by the Village of
Libertyville.
All Libertyville firefighters and
Lieutenants are hired from a valid
register of eligible's established by
the Libertyville Fire and Police
Commissioners. In order to qualify for
this list, an individual must first
obtain state certification as
Firefighter II and EMT-Basic. Then, one
must go through a competitive hiring and
extensive screening process. This
process includes a written exam, oral
interview, physical ability test,
psychological exam and a detailed
background check which includes a
polygraph. Once hired, all firefighters
must be certified as an EMT-Paramedic
within 2 years. After these minimum
qualifications are met, our members
strive to continue our education and
training in a variety of disciplines
through our careers.
Libertyville Local 3892 was organized on
January 18th, 1999. On that date,
Libertyville firefighters voted with the
Illinois Labor Relations Board (ILRB)
and were officially recognized as a
Collective Bargaining Unit by the State
of Illinois. In September of 2008, the
ILRB recognized the Lieutenants as
eligible members and they voted to
join. Today, the Local consists of 5
Lieutenants, 29 firefighters and two
active retirees. We are currently
working under our third contract which
expires on April 30, 2012.
Congratulations to Bill Bending
on his promotion to Lieutenant
and also we welcome our newest
member Eric
Reckling.
