About The Department
Libertyville Fire Department
The Libertyville Fire Department
(LFD) serves an area of approximately 9.1 square miles
protecting and providing services for more than 21,000
residents. LFD also provides services under contract to the
Libertyville Fire Protection District. LFD provides a number of
services including fire suppression, EMS (paramedic), special
rescue, hazardous materials, dive rescue, public education, and
fire code enforcement. As one of the busiest fire departments
in Lake County, LFD responded to 3940 emergency calls in 2008
within the Village, the District, and neighboring communities.
These responses and services are provided out of three fire
stations staffed with 33 full-time employees (25 of which are
members of Local 3892), and 9 contract employees. Currently
there is a minimum of 10 personnel and a maximum of 13 personnel
assigned to each shift between the three stations. Personnel
numbers can vary due to vacation time, injury, and sick leave.
The normal work day for each shift is 24 hours on duty (one
shift) followed by 48 hours off (two shifts). Shifts commence
at 7:00 am and end at 7:00 am the following day. The
administration offices along with the fire prevention bureau are
open from 8:00 am until 5:00 pm Monday thru Friday. For more
